AACC NEWS AND EVENTS

JANUARY 2026

AACC President

Dawn Lillington

Happy New Year everyone, although I hear it’s no longer proper etiquette to say that after January 7th… oh well! I hope you all enjoyed a safe, relaxing, and celebratory holiday season. It’s certainly hard returning to reality amid the sadness and noise coming out of Washington, DC.

Speaking of DC, it was recently announced that Ambassador Kevin Rudd has resigned from his post and will be replaced in March 2026. Ambassador Rudd has played a significant role in advancing the AUKUS conversation and broader Australia–US collaboration, and he has been a wonderful ambassador for CSIRO in the United States. We had been expecting the Ambassador to attend our upcoming Gala; unfortunately, this will no longer be possible.

On the topic of the Gala, we are absolutely thrilled by the incredible level of government and industry support this year. A heartfelt thank you to United Airlines, Penfolds, Austrade, the Queensland Government, Withers, LGT Wealth Management US, Crestbridge Fiduciary, Rampart Consulting, Hall International Insurance Strategies, Kelly Partners, Atlas Wealth Group, King & Spalding, Littler and HSBC Private Banking. Our 50th Anniversary Gala is shaping up to be a spectacular evening of celebration - secure your tickets now and join us for this milestone event.

Looking ahead to 2026, the AACC has an exciting calendar of events in development. Our ANZAC Service will now be hosted at the Marines’ Memorial Club in San Francisco, we’re planning a gathering around the Australia vs Paraguay World Cup match in June, and we’ll be marking the 75th Anniversary of Penfolds Grange with a special dinner. In between, we’ll continue our popular coffee meetups and networking events, making it a great time to join or renew your membership.

Last night, we were proud to celebrate Australian Heritage Night at the Saint Mary’s basketball game. Saint Mary’s currently has six Australian athletes across their men’s and women’s teams, and last weekend the college retired the #2 jersey, worn by outstanding Australian athlete Louella Tomlinson. We’ve also heard that two more Australians will be joining the program next year. We’re looking forward to bringing together the Aussie athletes at Saint Mary’s to recognize their dedication and contribution to Australian sport – stay tuned.

Wishing you all a successful and fulfilling 2026 and we look forward to seeing you at one (or many!) of our upcoming events.

Cheers,

Dawn

On behalf of the AACC Board

CAN DEMENTIA BE PREVENTED? SCIENCE-BACKED STRATEGIES

Can you actually lower your risk of dementia? Research suggests that managing cardiovascular health, staying physically active, getting quality sleep, eating a balanced diet, and reducing chronic stress all play an important role in long-term cognitive health. Evidence also helps clarify common questions around alcohol, supplements, hormone therapy, and environmental exposures, separating what may help from what’s unlikely to make a difference. While there’s no single way to prevent dementia, small, consistent lifestyle choices can add up over time and support a healthier brain as you age.
